Sutra Secret - The first of the five Mahavrats of Guru Bhagwant is the Pranatipat Viramana Vrat.

SUTRA SECRET

पंच महव्वयजुत्तो:

(1) Pranatipat Viraman Mahavrat: Pran = Jeev (Living being). Atipat = To kill. Viraman = To abstain.

Pranatipat is killing someone, taking their life.

Pranatipat Viraman Mahavrat is abstaining from Pranatipat.

In scriptures, five types of jeev are described:

(1) Ekendriya (one-sensed), (2) Beindriya (two-sensed), (3) Teindriya (three-sensed), (4) Chaurindriya (four-sensed), (5) Panchendriya (five-sensed).

All the living beings in the world are included in these five types. Any action that causes suffering to these living beings is called 'Atipat'.

Do not commit 'Pranatipat' through mind, speech, and body.

 Raising your hand to hit someone is Pranatipat through the body (Kaya).

 Saying 'I will kill you' is Pranatipat through speech (Vachan).

 Thinking of killing someone is Pranatipat through the mind (Mann).
