The First Pooja: Jal Pooja
When the Tirthankars are borm, the throne of Indra in the heavens gets shaken. This is how Indra learns of the birth of the Tirthankar.
Indra himself comes to Mount Meru with the Tirthankar. Millions of devs and devis gather on Mount Meru to celebrate the Tirthankar's birth (Janmabhishek). To perform the Tirthankar's abhishek ceremony, water is brought from the ocean called 'Kshirodadhi'.
Kshirodadhi is an ocean with pure, clean, and fresh water. However, this water is white like milk.
Millions of devs and devis, along with 64 Indras, come together with 16.4 million kalash, drums, shehnai, bells, ghantnaad, shankhnaad and the sweet music of conch shells to perform the Tirthankar's abhishek ceremony.
Children, when we perform the Tirthankar's abhishek ceremony in our jinalays, we add a little milk to pure water to make the water appear milky, just to feel like what Indras did on Mount Meru,. We also play drums and bells and sing the song 'Meru Shikhar Navrarave Surpati' to celebrate the Tirthankar's abhishek ceremony.
